Higher horsepower, towing and hauling capabilities of modern vehicles make turbo-diesel pick-ups, SUVs, vans and delivery/utility vehicles especially prone to severe service. Other severe-duty vehicles include light, medium and heavy-duty trucks, buses, heavy equipment, 4X4s, tow trucks, race cars, tractors and motor homes.

AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® Synthetic Extreme Pressure (EP) Gear Lube is a premium-grade gear oil specifically engineered for maximum performance in severe-duty applications. This state-of-the-art AMSOIL formulation features an exclusive blend of high-viscosity, shear-stable synthetic base oils and an extra treatment of high-performance additives. AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR Synthetic EP Gear Lube maintains its viscosity for long-lasting protection against metal-to-metal contact. The proprietary AMSOIL additives form an iron-sulfide barrier coating on gear surfaces, providing the ultimate line of defense against wear, pitting and scoring. AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR helps prevent "thermal runaway" - a phenomenon caused by a lubricant's inability to control friction and increased heat under high-stress conditions. By controlling thermal runaway, AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR Synthetic EP Gear Lube inhibits rapid lubricant degradation and component damage. AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR EP Gear Lube excels in hot and cold temperature extremes. By design, it resists breakdown from high heat, preventing acids and carbon/varnish formation. Its wax-free construction also improves cold-flow properties, improving fuel economy and cold-weather shifting.

Ultimate Cold-Weather Protection
Some gear lubes fail to meet basic low-temperature requirements. Mobil 1 75W-140 Gear Oil, for example, failed to meet the requirements of the industry standards, AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR®, on the other hand, delivers 20% more cold-temperature protection than the standard requires. It delivers better cold-temperature protection than Mobil 1 and Valvoline SynPower.

For product service life in non-differential applications, consult owner’s manual or the OEM for either normal or severe synthetic oil service intervals. Where service intervals are unavailable, drain at twice the interval for conventional oil.

Gear oils should be changed more frequently when operating vehicles or equipment in dusty or dirty conditions unless the gear system is properly sealed and equipped with membrane type breathers.

Note: AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where water contamination occurs. Check and service the gear oil frequently when water contamination is possible.

Recommended for use in differentials, manual transmissions and other gear applications requiring any of the following specifications: API GL-5, MT-1, MIL-PRF-2105E, Dana SHAES 234 (Formerly Eaton PS-037), Mack GO-J, or other GL-5 based specifications from vehicle manufacturers, including Ford*, GM* and Chrysler*. Can also be used in axles where an API GL-4 lubricant is recommended.

AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR (75W-140) provides superior performance and replaces competitors' 75W-140, 80W-140 and 85W-140 gear oils. Use where these viscosities are required by OEMs and where maximum viscosity protection is needed for extreme severe-duty applications.

AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® is compatible with conventional and synthetic gear oils. Mixing AMSOIL gear oils with other oils, however, will shorten the oil life expectancy and reduce the performance benefits. AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed. Aftermarket oil additives, other than those specified by AMSOIL, are not recommended for use with AMSOIL gear oils.

AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® is compatible with most limited slip differentials. If limited slip differential chatter occurs, add AMSOIL Slip-Lock™ friction modifier additive.

Great for drive shaft bikes

Another great Amsoil product. I used it in my BMW K1600 GTL drive shaft. These drives can be a bit sloppy but it seems quieter and more precise since I put in the Amsoil.

Lubricated Feel

Replaced RCF TVD rear diff fluid with severe gear 75w-90 and I felt an instant smoothness when I reversed. It didn't feel stiff or feel as if there was any resistance. Gone 1000 miles so far and it still feels lubricated.

Harley Davidson Touring gearbox

I've been using this in my Harley Davidson Ultra Limited's gearbox since it was new in 2013. Started using it in 2006 on previous Harley. I could tell a difference immediately. Smoother shifting and confidence the gearbox was better protected than the OEM requirement of using engine oil in the gearbox.

Ive been running this in both axles for 112,000 miles. I dont have issues with kicking it in 4WD in extreme cold (no 4WD button/knob in this rig). The rear locking Eaton differential works reliably with zero noise. I tow consistently and I tap shift 97% of the time I drive to avoid using my service brakes which puts extreme stress on my drivetrain (bought truck new, truck has 125K hard miles, original factory installed rotors & pads are still on it and only the pads have worn by 2mm max). I drain & fill the diffs every 45K and I only get metal dust at the plugs, no flakes. So, I would say its working well.

Differential Oil for Honda S2000

I switched from OEM Honda differential oil to Amsoil when rapsy metallic noises started coming from the differential after sweeping curves (street, not track etc.). The raspy noises disappeared immediately, and as of the 1-year mark, they have not returned.

2007 Harley's Transmission cure

I purchased a 2007 HD Ultra Classic in Nov. 2006. It was the first year of the 96 cu. in. Engine and 6 speed transmission.
In the first 600 miles I was bothered by hard shifting, and a noisy 6th gear. I found out Harley had used their 20W-50 oil in the trans.
At 600 miles I replaced the transmission oil with Amsoil Sever Gear 75W-90. Problem solved.
My bike now has 60K miles and the trans shifts beautifully with no noise.

can't do without

Ive been using amsoil for years in my bikes. As soon as I buy a new bike amsoil goes in it. Holds up to heat and the beating I put it through. Also quiets the trans and can find neutral a lot more easier. The only downside is its clear. Makes it difficult to see on dipstick.

I have a dodge ram 6.7 cummins 2500 4X4 Truck that pulls a 14k Fifth wheel. I noticed my rear end was chattering when turning on long trips. Acted just like it needed slip additive. All the info I could find said no additive. Dodge dealer wanted to do diff work...NOT 80k miles and no noise..

I decided to go up on wt. to 110 sever gear. All GOOD! Perfect! I tell everyone I meet to trash the mopar fluid if your working your truck.

my truck pulls a trailer that is right at its maximum gvwr. when it comes to the differential, i wanted the absolute best gear oil on the market. amsoil conducted a test on many gear oils available. severe gear scores higher over all [meaning average] when considering the all of 14 ways the oil was tested. for many years amsoil has conducted comparison tests of their best synthetic oils. amsoil always scores a higher average in the tests. i have heard people try and say their favorite oil is better than amsoil, but they cannot point to any testing that would support their opinions.

Keeps the lockers working

I have been using Amsoil exclusively in my 07 power wagon for over 2 years. With electric lockers front and rear, this is the only oil that keeps the lockers functioning perfectly. A lot of power wagon owners have issues with slow locker engagement, but mine engage almost instantly, and I no longer have foamy gear oil when I open the diffs.

Great oil

Replaced the gear oil in my 07 f150 with amsoil and couldn't be happier. Pretty sure I even get a mpg or 2 better gas millage as well. Transmission also tends to downshift less going up hills. Next up I will be switching out the trans oil with amsoil as well.

Highly recommended for a reason

Great gear oil. Running it in both of my diffs with no issues for ~5k miles on the new truck (I know, nothing compared to a lot of others) and 30k mi on my previous Jeep. The gear oil smells rich (very scientific, I know !) and pumps great. Several years ago I was approached by an AMSOIL fanatic who I got a very MLM scheme feel from, but after digging in; I'm sold. Doesn't matter if it's a new or used vehicle, I make a habit of changing every fluid to AMSOIL. Regardless of if you believe the 3rd party tests, I like the peace of mind in knowing I'm running the best in my vehicles.

75-140 Gear Oil

This is the first product I started using in the Amsoil line. It is what sold me on the product. I was told the seal conditioners in the oil would help pinion seals quit leaking. They did! I have have absolutely seen increased performance from differentials using this product.

I want my truck to last

I recently replaced my engine and gear oil in my 2010 Dodge 2500 diesel and am hoping for the best. I tow a toyhauler and it is extreme in AZ in the summer so i am hoping these products are as good as advertised. I do not want to risk any break downs so anything i can do to prevent one is in my best interest. So far so good.

Severe gear is great, been using it for years

I ran this oil in my old 2006 sillverado's differentials for over 200k miles and ever had to repairthem for any reason.

I recently put this in both the front and rear end of my 2014 Silverado. The factory oil in the rear end was much thinner and my rear differential was noisy. This oil cured that instantly and now its nice and quiet. Despite this oil being thicker than factory i have not seen any negative difference in fuel economy.

Used for a a 2015 Ram 1500. The old oil came out at 77 k miles. It was foaming extremely bad (air bubbles in oil). I replaced with severe gear and Amsoil's limited slip fluid.

I noticed smoother driving characteristics with the severe gear. The truck rolls better. I also noticed a 1 mpg increase in fuel economy.

Smooth Operation

I had this gear oil installed in my 1994 Ford Ranger XLT 2WD differential by a local repair shop. An inspection of the gear set revealed all was well. This truck has well over 200,000 miles on it and this marked my second differential oil change. My decision to use the Amsoil 75W-90 Servere Gear oil was based on the fact this truck hauls a wide variety of cargo (from rocks, wood to motorcycles) and I treasure reliability. After driving this truck for 23+ years, I've become familiar with it's sounds and feel and I noticed an absence of a slight howl coming the back of the truck at freeway speeds. No other changes or adjustments were made during the oil change and I maintain my own tire pressures. I look forward to not having to be concerned about this for another 100,000 miles!

Used after replacing pinion seal in the X. Quieted things down a bit with the howling diff. Can't put a complete seal on it being perfect but it beats the he'll out of one of the close competitors that I tried before. Due to a half shaft running a bit dry and cracked coil spring on that side. When that gets repaired I will know how well it tamed the howl. Efficiency has seen a jump in the limited driving I have done. That I can attribute to the diff fluid.

I've been using this gear lube since 1977 in Mont.

I started using it in my 1977 Chevy 4 wheel drive thanks to a friend who showed it to me. I drained both axles and the 4 speed tranny and transfer case and replaced it with Amsoil.I put 15 40 motor oil in. When it got 20 below zero and colder my truck would start when a lot of others wouldn't. The gear oil I drained into a pan could be cut into cubes. A lot of guys could hardly shift there tranny. 330000 miles on my dodge with mag hi-tech differential covers and not one tiny piece of steel on the magnets.I can go about 8000 thousand miles before my Cummins uses a quart of oil.

Replaced diff fluid in rear of 13 f150 at 45000 Factory fluid was nasty and very dirty. Jury is out on this fluid but at 72000 now without issues....make sure you check to see if you have a limitex slip diff as you will need the additive.

Saw AMSOIL on Next Bite fishing show

I have a Ford F-150 that had a chattering problem. Would take place after taking 10 corners. Spoke to my mechanic about the chattering, and there were two choices: replace the differential or try installing a high quality diff oil. After seeing AMSOIL on TV, decided to talk to my mechanic about using AMSOIL in the differential. Mechanic has good things to say about AMSOIL, so I decided to find a local dealer. Purchased 4 quarts of 75W-140 and the Slip Lock Additive and had my mechanic install. The chattering still existed, but not as bad as before the fluid change. By 2,500 km the chattering was gone. Thank you to AMSOIL and the AMSOIL dealer.

Durable and resilient

It was time to change the differential fluid in my RV tow vehicle. So I got a nice new differential cover from magtec and 4 qts. of Amsoil severe gear 75/ 140 and what a difference that made, unbelievably smoother and I can notice what seems to be less resistance when accelerating.
Time will tell, but I've got a good feeling that choice will make a world of difference on the open Highway pulling my heavy rig.

Reduces gear whine!

I've been having issues with my 3.73 gears, after taking my car to the track the gears whine and it can become annoying. Since I've been using Amsoil's 75W-140 for the diff, the gear whine has gone down a bit. The car feels great and my Torsen Limited Slip Diff seems to be behaving very well with the new oil. I recommend this product.

Grear Gear Oil

Run this in 3 trucks in both the front and rear diffs. One of those also runs it in the transfer case (NP205). Have had zero issues and have noticed less wear during yearly inspections. No fault of the gear oil at all but you need to make sure all your seals are in good working condition as this will let you know if it they are not, much more so then normal conventional gear lube, at least in my experience. Via an external temp reading (infared gun) of the diff cover after same trips with same load have noticed a drop in temperatures as well. Basically it works, and is the only thing I will run in high abuse applications.

Amsoil 75w-140 synthetic gear oil.

Use in a ford f150 as required. Change around every 60, 000 miles. May not be necessary, but can't hurt to have clean oil. Decided to use Amsoil after reading an independent test/study on gear lubes by a major oil company. Many oils were good. But Amsoil outperformed the other oils in nearly all of the tests performed. In 1998 when I first changed the oil Amsoil was all I could get in synthetic 75w-140. Ford dealers didn't carry it and the service manager recommended using 90w, stated, "We use 90w". I said, "the diff. Tag states 75w-140! You don't sell the oil you recommend?". Wonder how may diff's ford burned up? Have used Amsoil since then.
